History: pistoia is a medieval town built on a roman camp at the foot of the mountains and for this reason it is called “the gate to the appennines” linking north and south. Pistoia was invaded by the Longobards who made it flourish and provided it with its own Mint, a statute which developed into a communal authonomy thus guaranteeing democracy and well-being. Thanks to its political authonomy the territory was expanded, reclaimed and the marshlands were turned into a fertile land good for horticolture and plant growing.
Nowadays Pistoia is a quiet town worth sightseeing because of its works of art, churches and modern art museums.
